CUHK Medicine 35th Anniversary Distinguished Lecture Series: Prof. Jerry Shay Date : 2016-04-20 Details : To join in celebrating the 35th anniversary of the Faculty of Medicine, The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK), the School of Biomedical Sciences (SBS) was pleased to have invited Prof. Gong Xiaohua and Prof. Jerry Shay, two distinguished scholars in the world, to participate in the CUHK Medicine 35th Anniversary Distinguished Lecture Series. During their respective visits on 12 April 2016 and 20 April 2016, they not only delivered lectures but also had individual meetings to share expertise and experience with our Faculty members. Prof. Gong, from the University of California at Berkeley, U.S.A., who is an expert in Optometry and Vision Science, had given a talk entitled “Molecular Genetics and Cellular Biology of Mouse Retina and Related Disorders and Therapies”, whereas Prof. Shay, who is the Vice Chairman of the Department of Cell Biology at The University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas, U.S.A., presented the topic “Aging and Cancer: Are Telomeres and Telomerase the Connection?” Apart from delivering lectures, the speakers were invited to have individual meetings with Prof. Chan Wai-yee, School Director of SBS and our Principal Investigators in order to have more in-depth sharing on their research interests during their stay in our School. They were also arranged to tour the Core Laboratories at Lo Kwee-Seong Integrated Biomedical Sciences Building.
