“Silent Teacher” Body Donation Programme Information Day

Date : 2023-08-05
Details :

“Silent Teacher” Body Donation Programme held an Information Day for the general public on 5 August 2023, attracting more than 300 people registered, with about 80% attending. Visitors came from all walks of life, including retirees, parents, social workers, and students etc. It was the first Information Day of the Body Donation Programme since its establishment about ten years ago.

The Information Day was a success. It was supported by five end-of-life planning exhibitors including, Forget Thee Not, Tung Wah Group of Hospitals Community Services Division Elderly Services Section Endless Care Services, CUHK Jockey Club Institute of Ageing, Food and Environmental Hygiene Department Green Burial Service team. We also appreciated the speakers’ sharing their research and end-of-life planning with our audiences, including Prof. Helen Chan from CUHK The Nethersole School of Nursing. Sharing from Dr. Ann S.N. Lau from CUHK Centre for Bioethics on bioethics and Mr. Zack Law on the concept of home death were extremely fruitful and rewarding.

We were honoured to have the Strive and Rise Programme, sponsored by the Hong Kong SAR Government, visited us and gave more than 100 of its mentees the opportunity to interact with our exhibitors and our student helpers, and most importantly, to allow them to reflect on their life purpose for their future personal development.

The Information Day also included tours of the Dissecting Lab in Choh-Ming Li Basic Medical Sciences Building where registered visitors could learn more about human anatomy and how the “Silent Teachers” support anatomy training and medical education. The tours were led by Dr Sam H.K. Poon, the Body Donation Programme Coordinator, and Dr Wong Wai-kai.

“Silent Teacher” Body Donation Programme would like to thank all participants and exhibitors for their contributions and efforts.
