Important Notice to all applicants of the Division of Biomedical Sciences for admission exercise 2025-26

PhD programme in Biomedical Science (full-time) with a reference number of Hong Kong PhD Fellowship Scheme (HKPFS):

Applicants are reminded to first obtain a HKPFS reference number first through RGC’s website and submit an online application to CUHK that quotes the HKPFS reference number via the CUHK Online Application System. The deadline for both the application and the submission of required documents is 1 December 2024.

HKPFS applicants must complete both the online application form and the mandatory HKPFS supplement (Part A to H). Referees’ reports must be submitted via the online platform. You may wish to seek your referees’ support and agreement prior to inputting their information online. In addition to meeting CUHK’s admission requirements for the Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) stream under the “M.Phil.-Ph.D. Programmes” and English language proficiency requirements, HKPFS applicants should have demonstrated exceptional achievements in the following areas: Academic Excellence, Research Ability and Potential, Communication and Interpersonal skills, and Leadership Abilities.

Articulated MPhil-PhD Programme in Biomedical Sciences:

For applicants applying directly for the Articulated MPhil-PhD Programme in Biomedical Sciences through the CUHK Online Application System (i.e. non-HKPFS applicants), please note that the deadline for both the application and the submission of required documents is 1 December 2024.

Important notes to both HKPFS and non-HKPFS applicants

The Graduate Division will only consider the application with ALL required documents and information provided by the application deadline. Applicants are reminded to double check the issued and expiry dates of all valid reports/certificates of the latest version.

Documents Required of Online Application System for Postgraduate Programmes – CUHK Graduate School | Postgraduate Admissions

Applicants who obtained degrees from universities in Mainland China are required to provide a valid Online Verification Report of Higher Education Qualification Certificate (教育部學歷證書電子註冊備案表) and a valid Online Verification Report of Higher Education Degree Certificate (中國高等教育學位在線驗證報告) issued by the CHESICC (學信網) together with their degree certificate and graduation certificate.

Applicants with a Chinese name MUST input your C.C. code from their Hong Kong identity card (if applicable) or ensure that their Chinese name matches their passport/ID card in the online application form. After submission, you may not be able to change your Chinese name.

Postgraduate Studentships/Scholarships

CUHK offers Postgraduate Studentships (PGS) for up to 2 years to all full-time MPhil students and for up to 4 years to all full-time PhD students. The PGS for 2024-25 is HK$18,725 (approx. US$2,402) per month. Additionally, various scholarships and funding schemes are available to support full-time MPhil and PhD students to conduct overseas academic activities, such as presenting papers at international conferences, conducting field trips and engaging in data collection projects. Tuition Waiver Scheme for Local Research Postgraduate Students

Starting from the 2018-19 academic year, the Government has been granting a tuition waiver to all current and newly admitted local full-time research postgraduate (RPg) students enrolled in UGC-funded RPg programmes for their entire normative study period.
