Prof. Chan Wai-yee, Director of the School of Biomedical Sciences (SBS), and Prof. Cho Chi-hin, Research Professor of SBS, visited Chiang Mai University in Thailand, and University of Putra Malaysia and University of Malaya in Malaysia on 5 – 7 February 2017. The visits aimed to explore academic and research collaboration and to promote our research postgraduate and undergraduate programmes.
As a return visit to Chiang Mai University (CMU) since their last visit in December 2015, Prof. Chan and Prof. Cho stayed with the Faculty of Associated Medical Sciences of CMU on 5 – 6 February 2017. During the visit, Prof. Chan delivered a talk on “Biomedical Sciences Research and Education in Hong Kong” to the participants including their teaching staff, researchers and postgraduate students, followed by a discussion of research interests and knowledge sharing between the two universities. A meeting with the Faculty management was also held to discuss the possible academic and research collaborations.
On the following day, Prof. Chan and Prof. Cho paid visit to the Department of Biomedical Science of University of Malaya (UM) in the morning, followed by another visit to the Department of Biomedical Science of University of Putra Malaysia (UPM) in the afternoon. In both visits, Prof. Chan gave talks on the same topic as shared at CMU to introduce postgraduate and undergraduate studies of Biomedical Sciences in Hong Kong. This is the first time that our School visited the two universities, and both parties had exchanged initial views on collaborations in research as well as in student training.
Apart from strengthening academic links with overseas universities, the visits have provided a platform for our School to introduce and promote our postgraduate programme and undergraduate programme to prospective students overseas.
