Forty delegates from Khon Kaen University (KKU), Thailand visited the School of Biomedical Sciences (SBS) on 16 February 2012. The delegation comprised academics from Medical Sciences, Physical Sciences, Technology, Engineering, Humanity and Social Sciences fields. During the visit, Prof. C.H. Cho, Associate Director (Research) of SBS introduced the delegation the history and structure of the University and our School, and shared with them our experiences in promoting research and postgraduate education. The visitors were also guided to tour around the Lo Kwee-Seong Integrated Biomedical Sciences Building, particularly our laboratory setting and facilities.
The visit allowed us to share with the KKU delegation not only our practices in research-based teaching and learning but also the insights on the systems and other pre-requisites essential for transforming from a teaching-based university to a research-based university. Aside from fulfilling these objectives, the visit has laid down sound foundation for forging mutual academic and research collaborations in the future. Indeed, based on the invitation of the KKU, our School is going to sign a Memorandum of Understanding with several universities and research institutes from Southeast Asia for becoming a member of the "ASIA-International Biomedical Science Consortium".
