Prof. Matthew Walters, Head of School / Professor of Clinical Pharmacology, Institute of Cardiovascular and Medical Sciences, and Prof. Tom Evans, International Lead, College of Medical, Veterinary and Life Sciences, The University of Glasgow, U.K., visited the School of Biomedical Sciences (SBS) on 22 September 2016.
The guests were warmly welcomed by Prof. Francis K.L. Chan, Dean of Medicine, The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK), Prof. Chan Wai-yee, Director of SBS, and Prof. Woody W.Y. Chan, Associate Director (Graduate Education) of SBS. The meeting was started off with the Dean’s introduction of CUHK’s regulations on joint postgraduate programmes, followed by presentations on the latest development of the three newly-restructured Thematic Research Programs (TRPs) of SBS by Prof. Yao Xiaoqiang, Chief of the Neural, Vascular, and Metabolic Biology (NVMB) Theme, Prof. Alfred S.L. Cheng, Deputy Chief of the Cancer Biology and Experimental Therapeutics (CBET) Theme, and Prof. Wan Chao, representative from the Developmental and Regenerative Biology (DRB) Theme, respectively. The meeting was concluded with a discussion on possibility for developing a joint master degree programme between the two institutions.
This is the first time the School connected with the University of Glasgow. The visit laid down a good foundation for pursuing more collaborations in the future.
