Prof. Chan Wai-yee, Director of the School of Biomedical Sciences (SBS) and Prof. Cho Chi-hin, Emeritus Professor of SBS attended the opening ceremony of South Sichuan Institute for Translational Medicine (SSITM) held in Luzhou, Sichuan, China on 28 May 2019.
The establishment of SSITM was initiated by Prof. Cho and five Ph.D graduates of SBS who currently worked in Southwest Medical University, Luzhou, including Prof. Xiao Zhangang, Director of SSITM. In the ceremony, Prof. Chan and Prof. Xiao signed a framework agreement between SSITM and SBS to promote collaboration in education and medical technologies in translational medicine between the two institutes.
SSITM focuses on big data mining, next generation sequencing and genome editing that facilitate the discovery of immunotherapies and stem cell-based therapies for cancer treatment. It is well-equipped with a GMP-level laboratory for handling clinical specimens and cell-based therapies. The visit and signing of agreement have established a solid foundation between the School and SSITM to explore collaboration in translating research insights into clinical studies in the future.
