To commemorate the establishment of the Ministry of Education (MoE) Key Laboratory of Regenerative Medicine (The Chinese University of Hong Kong – Jinan University) (the Key Laboratory) following the granting of official operation approval by the MoE of People’s Republic of China in December 2013, plaque unveiling ceremonies of the Key Laboratory were held in Hong Kong and Guangzhou, respectively, on 29 February 2016.
The ceremony held in Hong Kong was officiated by Mr. Lei Zhengang, Director of the Department of Cultural Affairs, Overseas Chinese Affairs Office of the State Council; Prof. Hu Jun, President of Jinan University; Mr. Liu Zhiming, Deputy Inspector of the Department of Educational, Scientific and Technological Affairs, Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in Hong Kong; Prof. Joseph Sung, Vice-Chancellor and President of the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK); Prof. Fanny M.C. Cheung, Pro-Vice-Chancellor / Vice-President of CUHK; Prof. Chan Wai-yee, Director of School of Biomedical Sciences (SBS), CUHK; and Prof. Cai Dongqing, Jinan University at the Lo Kwee-Seong Integrated Biomedical Sciences Building, Area 39, CUHK. In the ceremony, Prof. Chan Wai-yee, the Co-Director of the Key Laboratory, briefly introduced the research work and the up-to-date development of the Key Laboratory to the participants. Another plaque unveiling ceremony was held at Jinan University immediately in the afternoon on the same day.
It is believed that the MoE Key Laboratory will not only serve as an important and effective training base for scientific talents, but also provides a channel for CUHK researchers to contribute more significantly to the development of stem cell and regeneration research at both national and international levels.
