On the invitation of the municipal government of Yantai, Shandong Province, China, Prof. Chan Wai-yee, Director of the School of Biomedical Sciences (SBS) led a delegation to visit the Yantai City and the Yantai Economic & Technological Development Area (YEDA) between 19 and 22 April 2018. Comprising SBS members including Prof. Vincent C. K. Cheung, Dr. Lu Gang, Dr. Kelvin K. K. Mui and Dr. Li Hongjian, the delegation met with the government officials of Yantai and a number of biopharmaceutical companies in the Biological Medicine Incubation Park and the Science and Technology Park in YEDA. During the visit, Prof. Chan was appointed as “Consultant for the Yantai Biopharmaceutical Industries” by the municipal government of Yantai; as “Scientific Advisor of YEDA” by the YEDA Management Committee; and as “Honorary Investigator” by Yantai Institute of Coastal Zone Research, Chinese Academy of Sciences.
Upon hearing Prof. Chan’s presentation on the major research and knowledge transfer activities conducted at The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) and SBS, the representatives of Yantai municipal government expressed their interest in the translational research work being done here and indicated that they would send a working group to visit SBS in early May to explore further collaboration.
