School of Biomedical Sciences (SBS) Research Day 2014 cum Cancer and Inflammation Symposium 2014 Date : 2014-06-05 Details :
Officiated by Prof. Francis K.L. Chan, Dean of Medicine and Prof. Wai-yee Chan, Director of SBS, the "SBS Research Day 2014" in conjunction with the "Cancer and Inflammation Symposium 2014" were successfully held on 5 and 6 June 2014. The event was well attended by more than 260 participants, including members of the School, Thematic Associate Members from clinical departments as well as guests from the University of Hong Kong and the Hong Kong Baptist University. In order to promote scientific interactions and collaborative relationship outside Hong Kong, we were honored to have Prof. Rocky S. Tuan from University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine, U.S.A., Prof. Wei Jiang from State Key Laboratory of Molecular Oncology, Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences and Prof. Phillip Nagley from Monash University, Australia serving as Plenary Speakers in the Research Day. Members and Associate Members of the two Thematic Research Programs (TRPs), "Cancer and Inflammation" and "Reproduction, Development and Endocrinology" gave oral presentations during the event and members of the other three TRPs, "Neuro-degeneration, -development and Repair", "Stem Cell and Regeneration" and "Vascular and Metabolic Biology" shared their research work through poster presentations. In addition, an 18-member delegation including professors and postgraduate students from the State Key Laboratory of Molecular Oncology, Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences also joined the event. In fact, a formal reciprocal visit have been established between our "Cancer and Inflammation" Thematic Research Program and the State Key Laboratory of Molecular Oncology since 2011. During the second visit to our School, members of the delegation shared their research findings with participants at the Cancer and Inflammation Symposium held on the second day of the event. This two-day event have enabled all the participants, including professors, postgraduate students and research staff of different local or overseas institutes, to strengthen the academic linkage with each other and to exchange research ideas.
