Joint Symposium on "Biomedical Research across the Continents – Insight and Innovation" Date : 2013-03-07 - 2013-03-08 Details : The Joint Symposium on "Biomedical Research across the Continents – Insight and Innovation" was successfully held in 7 and 8 March 2013 at The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST). The symposium was co-organized by School of Science of HKUST, Schools of the Health Sciences of University of Pittsburgh, School of Life Sciences and School of Medicine of Tsinghua University and the School of Biomedical Sciences of The Chinese University of Hong Kong. Nine members of the School of Biomedical Sciences, including Professors Chan Wai-Yee, Prof. Chan Hsiao-Chang, Prof. Andrew M. Chan, Prof. Hector S.O. Chan, Prof. Woody W.Y. Chan, Prof. Kenneth K.H. Lee, Prof. Eugene Ponomarev, Prof. Stephen K.W. Tsui and Prof. Yung Wing-Ho were invited to serve as speakers for various sessions during the symposium. Prof. Rocky S. Tuan of School of the Health Sciences, University of Pittsburgh and a member of our School's Scientific Advisory Committee also joined the event as one of the speakers. The two-day symposium focused on advances in neuroscience, immunology, infectious disease, imaging and modeling, normal and cancer cell biology, developmental biology, and regeneration. Eminent scientists from multiple biomedical fields were brought together to share with the participants their experiences, insights and latest research findings. The symposium has laid down a sound foundation for the four participating institutions to establish closer academic partnerships. In view of the overwhelmingly positive feedback, the four institutions have started planning another multilateral symposium to be held in Beijing in April 2014.
