Invited by Prof. Chan Wai-Yee, Director of School of Biomedical Sciences (SBS) in 2011, the 4-member delegation led by Prof. Harriet Wahlberg-Henriksson, President of the Karolinska Institutet (KI), Sweden visited The Chinese University of Hong Kong on 1 March 2012. During the visit to SBS, the KI delegates were arranged to meet with our Prof. Chan, Prof. Fung Kwok-Pui, Associate Director (Administration), Prof. Yung Wing-Ho, Chief of Neuro-degeneration, -development & Repair Program, and Prof. Wan Chao to learn the latest development of our School and to explore future opportunities in terms of academic and research collaborations. The visitors were also guided to tour around the Lo Kwee-Seong Integrated Biomedical Sciences Building, particularly our core labs and laboratory animal holding facilities.
With coordination of the Office of Academic Links (OALC), the delegates also met with the Senior Management of the University including Prof. Joseph J.Y. Sung, Vice-Chancellor and Prof. Jack C.Y. Cheng, Pro-Vice-Chancellor, and visited the Institute of Chinese Medicine, the Li Ka Shing Institute of Health Sciences (LiHS) and the Hong Kong Science and Technology Park. When visiting the LiHS, the visitors received several presentations including the one on "Stem Cell Biology and Applications in Musculoskeletal Tissue Regeneration" by Prof. Li Gang, who is Deputy Chief of our Stem Cell & Regeneration Program.
This visit has laid down a good foundation for establishing academic collaborations between SBS and KI and for extending our scholarly connections to the academia in Northern Europe.
